Bajaria, who joined the company in 2016 and previously was in charge of international content, was promoted to replace Cindy Holland, who has been at Netflix for 18 years. Holland's departure is reminiscent of the corporate culture of Netflix, where even the most senior and famous executives can lose their jobs if management decides that there is someone better suited to their place, writes WSJ.
The company was recently co-chaired by Ted Sarandos, who wanted one person to run the television business, just like Netflix's film division.
“I wanted to simplify the way our content teams work. One team is on film, led by Scott Stuber, and another on television, which will now be led by Bela Bajaria,” Sarandos explained.
Prior to joining Netflix, Bajaria led the production division of Universal Television.
