According to Politika, Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević has stepped down. In an emergency press conference, Vučević stated that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić endorsed his choice and concurred with his reasoning. "I think that through this approach, we show the accountability of those chosen to be responsible," he stated.

Vučević expressed pride in the economic accomplishments that the Serbian government had achieved over the last nine months. He stated that the shadow originated from the Novi Sad tragedy, after which the nation "appeared to be mired" in the calamity.

The matter concerned the fall of a concrete canopy above the entrance to the railway station structure in Novi Sad on November 1, 2024. The collapse resulted in the deaths of 15 individuals. In light of this situation, demonstrations started in the nation and continue to take place.

In Vučević opinion, the division that emerged in Serbian society was initiated from abroad. He noted that new incidents occurred despite calls by the authorities to reduce tensions. As Vučević notes, he learned in the morning that a female student had been injured during protests in Novi Sad. He called this unacceptable.

Vučević made the decision to resign after this event. Also, according to him, Novi Sad Mayor Milan Đurić will resign as well. “In this way we have met the demands of the demonstrators,” Vučević said and expressed hope that this would lead to stabilization of the situation in society and dialogue.
