"The famous images of the Queen, the country's first monarch, that appear on Bank of England notes are a representation of the vital task we conduct. Her Majesty the Queen's likenesses on current banknotes will remain legal tender," the regulator said.

After mourning, there will be another announcement regarding the Bank of England's current bills.

Early on Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced that the 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth II of Britain had passed away in Scotland. She had been ruling the country for more than 70 years. Following Elizabeth II, Prince Charles assumed the throne as Charles III, and his wife Camilla was elevated to the position of queen consort.
