Huawei sales beat Apple in Q2

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei increased sales by more than a third in the second quarter of 2018 and became the second in the world by this indicator, surpassing Apple, said research firm Gartner.

Huawei's sales jumped 38.6% year-on-year in April-June to 49.8 million units. Apple increased sales by only 0.9%, to 44.7 million.

"Huawei continues to innovate in its smartphones and expand its line of devices to cover as many market segments as possible," said Anshul Gupta, director of research at Gartner. "They also supported sale of the company's investment in the development and positioning of the Honor brand."

Leadership in the smartphone market is steadily held by South Korean Samsung, despite a 12.7% decline in sales - the company shipped 72.3 million smartphones last quarter, or 1.5 times more than its nearest competitors.

Worldwide smartphone sales to end users in the II quarter of 2018 grew by 2% compared to the same period in 2017 and amounted to 374 million units,

From the point of view of operating systems used in smartphones, Android has strengthened its advantage over iOS, increasing its market share to 88% from 87.8%. The share of iOS fell from 12.1% to 11.9%.

Sales of smartphones on other OS amounted to less than 0.1% - a total of 112.1 thousand units.
