The measure prohibiting the installation of TikTok on electronic devices used by the federal government had previously been approved by the US Senate. Representatives of the social network criticized the political motivation and unreasonableness of the prohibition in some U.S. states.
The widely distributed document also mandates that U.S. government agencies investigate TikTok use in IT service provider contracts within 90 days.
According to CNN, TikTok use on government-owned devices has already been prohibited in more than half of American states due to national security concerns. In addition to TikTok, several states have also outlawed WeChat and AliPay, two applications that have ties to China.
