Taiwan chipmaker TSMC to invest $12B in USA plant

According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the largest semiconductor manufacturer in the world, plans to construct a new $12 billion semiconductor plant in Arizona (USA).

"Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world's largest contract chip maker, is contemplating another multibillion-dollar investment in a plant in Arizona," notes the newspaper. The investment might be as large as $12 billion.

According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, "TSMC expects to announce in the next months the construction of a cutting-edge semiconductor plant north of Phoenix, near to another chip plant the company has vowed to build in 2020."

They claim that the factory will create 3-nanometer chips, which are among the smallest and quickest ones currently on the market.
