"President Erdogan spoke with UN Secretary-General António Guterres over the phone. They addressed ways to settle the problem surrounding the situation in Ukraine during the conference. President Erdogan stated at the meeting that Ankara is continuing joint efforts to transport Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea, which would help avert a worldwide food crisis," according to the office.

President Erdogan further stated that he continues to recommend that peace negotiations be reopened and the war be resolved diplomatically.

The United Nations has frequently said that there is a risk of a food catastrophe owing to grain shortages, while the EU and US has accused Russia of impeding Ukrainian grain supply to international markets. Moscow refuted the claims.
