In response to a question concerning recent comments made by US President Joe Biden about "safeguarding" Taiwan, UN Secretary General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a briefing that the UN hopes China and US relations will continue to be fruitful.
In a previous interview with CBS television, Biden stated that despite the U.S.'s cooperation with the island, it was not encouraging Taiwan to break away from China. However, he emphasized that the U.S. would defend Taiwan if a military battle between the island and the PRC broke out.
"We hope that the partnership between China and the U.S. will continue in a productive way," Dujarric said of the ties between the two countries.
