A report issued by Katherine Tai's office, the U.S. trade representative, states that the country is requesting that the World Trade Organization (WTO) undergo the necessary change in order to increase effectiveness.
The document says, "The WTO must increase efficiency to respond to people's requirements; necessary reform is critical to support the needs of our society."
The U.S. claims that the WTO cannot react quickly enough to the "rapidly changing global economy," and that the organization's present rules have failed to stop unfair trade and economic practices.
